Syracuse Challenger Baseball and their all-inclusive athletic complex
The Carrier Park Field of Dreams
What does any child in America want more than to play baseball with all the other kids. Well for some this is a little more challenging than others, and that's where Dom Cambareri's passion, love of the game, and support of the kids comes in. Through the generosity of people just like yourself, funds are raised and used to create accessible sports arenas for active energetic kids with disabilities to enjoy the same freedoms, fun, and challenges as any other kid
Here's a little insight from founder and Executive Director Dom Cambareri
"I think it is important to recognize that the source and inspiration behind the Carrier Park Field of Dreams are the special needs players and families of Syracuse Challenger Baseball. Back in 2006, in only my 3rd year as Executive Director of Syracuse Challenger Baseball, we had experienced explosive growth of the league from about 60 kids when I started in 2004 to about 150 kids. The problem was that during June and July (when we play our games) we had trouble finding host fields and/or fields that could provide handicap accessibility, especially when the fields were soaked with rain / difficulty terrain. With no acceptable fields of their own, the plight of our Challenger players prompted me to think about of building a special set of fields that would promote inclusion and the ability of all children, both able-bodied and special needs, to be able to play sports side by side at the same state of the art, fully accessible fields. The Syracuse Challenger Baseball kids, in essence, were the source of a dream to build something special – a multi athletic, fully accessible sports complex. After I brought this vision to the Town of Dewitt in 2010, the Town embraced the concept and hence the beginning of putting together the “dream fields”"
